Should I repair the chip or just replace the windshield?
Repair is usually possible if the chip is no larger than the size of a quarter, not in your line of sight, and not at the edge of the glass. How long does chip repair take?
20 to 30 minutes for most chips. You can drive immediately afterward. No cure time required like a full replacement.
Will the chip be invisible after repair?
Mostly, but never 100%. A good repair restores about 80 to 95% of the optical clarity at the impact point. You may still see a faint mark in direct sunlight if you look closely. The structural integrity is restored and the chip stops spreading.
Why does a small chip even matter?
A chip is a stress concentrator. Temperature swings, road vibration, and pressure changes (closing doors, hitting potholes) push the chip toward becoming a crack. A $75 repair today becomes a $400+ replacement next month if the crack runs. Faster is cheaper.
Is a chip in my line of sight a problem?
Yes. Even after repair, a small mark remains at the impact point, and that mark in your driver-side line of sight can cause issues at night and in rain. For chips in the line of sight we usually recommend replacement instead.
